About Our Ingredients

We’re passionate about helping you stay well while you travel — and that starts with understanding what you’re taking.

Our formulations are built on evidence, not trends, with each ingredient carefully selected for its role in supporting your gut health.

Explore the ingredients in our Probiotic + Prebiotic + Electrolyte Rehydration Formula, what they do, and why they matter.

Ingredient Deep Dive

What is Saccharomyces cerevisiae var. boulardii (SB), and why is it a standout probiotic for travel?

Saccharomyces cerevisiae var. boulardii (SB) is a probiotic yeast that supports digestive health and gut microbial balance. Unlike many bacterial probiotics, it is highly robust and well suited to the challenges of travel.

SB is one of the most extensively studied probiotics in gastrointestinal research, with evidence showing it can help reduce the risk and duration of travellers’ diarrhoea and support recovery following infection. It may also help reduce the activity of toxins produced by diarrhoea-causing bacteria such as enterotoxigenic Escherichia coli (ETEC).

Key advantages

  • supports gut barrier function
  • helps inhibit pathogenic microorganisms
  • resistant to stomach acid and bile, allowing it to reach the intestines intact
  • remains active when taken alongside antibiotics
  • heat-stable and suitable for travel conditions

These characteristics make SB particularly practical for travel, as it does not require refrigeration and remains stable in warmer climates.

In comparison:
Lactobacillus rhamnosus GG is a well-known bacterial probiotic but is more temperature-sensitive and typically requires refrigeration.

Where bovine colostrum fits:
Bovine colostrum is not a probiotic. It is a bioactive substance that supports gut integrity and immune function, helping to nourish beneficial bacteria and complement probiotic activity.

What does CFU mean and why does our rehydration formula contain 10 billion CFU of SB?

CFU (colony forming units) measures the number of live microorganisms in each dose. A strength of 10 billion CFU of Saccharomyces cerevisiae var. boulardii (SB) provides a substantial level of beneficial organisms to help support digestive balance during travel, when the gut may be exposed to unfamiliar microbes.

The recommended daily dose of our Probiotic + Prebiotic + Electrolyte Rehydration Formula is two level scoops, which provides this full 10 billion CFU amount. Taking less than the recommended dose means you may not be receiving the level of probiotic organisms intended to support the formula’s effectiveness.

Which key electrolytes have you included in the rehydration formula and why?

Our electrolyte blend has been carefully selected to support fast, effective rehydration during and after travellers’ diarrhoea.
These are the key minerals most commonly lost through fluid loss — and the ones the body needs to restore balance quickly.

  • Sodium chloride
Essential for fluid absorption in the small intestine. Sodium helps draw water back into the bloodstream, making it the cornerstone of effective rehydration.
  • Potassium chloride
Helps restore fluid balance within cells and supports normal muscle, nerve, and heart function. Potassium is commonly depleted during diarrhoeal illness.
  • Magnesium citrate
A highly absorbable form of magnesium that supports muscle function, nerve signalling, and overall electrolyte balance — particularly important when levels are depleted.
  • Magnesium glycinate
A gentle, well-tolerated form of magnesium that supports the same core functions while being easier on a sensitive digestive system.

Together, these electrolytes help restore hydration, support cellular function, and assist the body’s natural recovery process.

What is the prebiotic Sunfibre® (PHGG) and how does it work?

Sunfibre® is a gentle, clinically studied prebiotic fibre derived from guar beans. It’s known as partially hydrolysed guar gum (PHGG), meaning it has been broken down into a form that is easy to digest and well tolerated — even when your gut is under stress during travel.

Unlike many traditional fibres, PHGG is low FODMAP, non-bloating, and non-thickening, making it particularly suitable for travel, where digestive comfort matters.

How does it work?

PHGG works by feeding the beneficial bacteria already living in your gut.

This helps to:

  • support a healthy balance of gut microbiota
  • strengthen the gut lining through the production of beneficial compounds (short-chain fatty acids)
  • promote more regular and stable digestion
  • minimise common digestive discomforts like bloating and gas
Why did we choose Sunfibre® (PHGG) over other prebiotic fibres?

Not all fibres are created equal — especially when you’re travelling.

Many commonly used prebiotics (such as inulin or fructo-oligosaccharides) can cause bloating, gas, and discomfort, particularly in sensitive or stressed digestive systems.

PHGG is different.

It is:

  • clinically shown to be gentle and well tolerated
  • low FODMAP, making it suitable for sensitive guts
  • less likely to cause bloating or excess gas
  • effective at supporting gut balance without overstimulating the digestive system

This makes it a far more practical and comfortable choice when you’re away from home.

How do Sunfibre® (PHGG) and Saccharomyces boulardii (SB) work together?

This is where the formulation becomes more powerful.

  • SB (the probiotic) helps defend the gut by supporting beneficial microbes and inhibiting harmful ones
  • PHGG (the prebiotic) helps nourish and sustain those beneficial microbes

Together, they:

  • reinforce your natural gut defences during travel
  • help maintain microbial balance when exposed to unfamiliar environments
  • support recovery if digestive symptoms occur

This combination is known as a synbiotic — delivering more comprehensive gut support than either ingredient alone.

Why have you included Zingiber officinale (ginger) root extract in the formulation?

Zingiber officinale, more commonly known as ginger, has been used for centuries to support digestive comfort.
We’ve included a concentrated extract to help manage nausea and support overall gut function during travel.

  • Supports nausea relief
Ginger is well known for its natural anti-nausea properties, which can be particularly helpful during gastrointestinal upset or while travelling.
  • Supports digestive comfort
It may help reduce feelings of stomach discomfort, bloating, and digestive unease.
  • Traditionally used and well tolerated
Ginger has a long history of safe use and is generally gentle on the digestive system.
  • Mild, functional flavour profile
We’ve selected a subtle ginger profile — not only for its benefits, but because strong flavours can be unappealing when you’re feeling unwell.

Together, this makes ginger a practical addition — supporting comfort when you need it most, without overwhelming the palate.

Why have you included Punica granatum (pomegranate) hull extract in the formulation?

Punica granatum, or pomegranate, has a long history of traditional use in supporting digestive health.

We’ve specifically selected a concentrated extract from the fruit hull for its role in helping manage gastrointestinal disturbance.

  • Supports gut integrity
Pomegranate hull contains natural tannins, which have astringent properties that may help support the intestinal lining during diarrhoeal illness.
  • Helps reduce excess fluid loss
These astringent properties can assist in reducing stool looseness and supporting more normal bowel function.
  • Rich in polyphenols
Provides antioxidant compounds that support the gut environment and overall digestive health.
  • Traditionally used for digestive support
Pomegranate has been used across multiple traditional systems to help manage gastrointestinal upset.

Together, this makes pomegranate hull extract a valuable addition — supporting the gut lining and helping restore digestive balance during and after illness.
